ABSTRACT

The competition acquis comprises the anti-trust, merger and state aid control policies. It includes rules and procedures to combat anticompetitive behaviour by companies and to prevent governments from granting state aids which distort competition in the Internal Market. The introduction of measures for the control of state aid came at the right time to complement the Strategic Development Plan introduced by the government. The enactment of the legal framework and the recent amendments awaiting to come into effect provide valuable means for the judiciary, the administrative and regulatory authorities to enforce Competition and State Aid policy. Any aids of a horizontal nature, regional aids, sectoral aids, aids to promote cultural and heritage conservation, can be considered compatible with the common market. The enactment of the legal framework and the recent amendments awaiting to come into effect provide valuable means for the judiciary, the administrative and regulatory authorities to enforce Competition and State Aid policy.
