ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to fill the gaps in the source material by making spot checks in various types of sources other than those left by the public care system, after systematic studies have been carried out to supplement these spot checks. It focuses on old women, although it is obvious that the gaps in the source material also affect the study of old men and make it difficult to investigate any differences in care forms between men and women. It is a truism to point out that old women are afflicted by ailments. There may however have been ailments that were never mentioned in public registers because they belonged to the 'shameful' sphere, such as uterine prolapse or incontinence. In view of women's caring role in the home, it is natural that the women swap their experiences and give advice from woman to woman.
