ABSTRACT

A large number of dermatological conditions and iatrogenic causes lead to acute skin failure, which means not only disruption of cutaneous integrity and functional loss, but also multiorgan failure needing specialized intensive care.

A thorough understanding of the etiopathogenesis of acute skin failure and its cascading effects on cardiac, renal, hepatic, and pulmonary systems is essential to start a prompt and effective management strategy to reduce morbidity and mortality. Prompt initiation of appropriate treatment and excellent double-barrier nursing care are two equally important pillars of management, which can save many lives. Herein, we provide a practical roadmap for appropriate management of the condition.
