ABSTRACT

Periodisation and planning is not an easy area to write about in a single chapter. The reason for this is twofold. First, this is an area with much conflicting research and even more opinion on what is correct and not correct. Second, the environment we find ourselves in when delivering ‘real life’ coaching is not always favourable to the types of facilities and access to athletes that we would need to produce the plans often presented. Therefore, this chapter aims to give coaches the knowledge to develop their own process for planning training and periodising training based upon their athletes and their environment.
