ABSTRACT

Leguminous forage crops harbor several insect pests of which some are responsible for economic damage to the crops. The present chapter presents an overview of pest problems in leguminous forage crops and their management. In this chapter, pest spectrum, pest descriptions, damage symptoms, and management of common pests of forage legumes of various groups, namely, annual (cowpea, soybean, berseem, cluster bean, fenugreek, velvet bean, and moth bean), perennial forage (lucerne and stylos), and perennial trees (agathi, subabul, Gliricidia sepium, and Prosopis spp.) have been given. The pest spectrum provides the information about various insect pests occurring in a particular crop. Pest descriptions of major pests and some other minor but common pests have been included. The methods of pest management are broadly based on the current state of general acceptance and use and also from available literatures.
