ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the role of Church councils in Africa from the perspective of one who has been part of the modern conciliar movement in African Christianity. The author provides insightful historical details about Christian Councils in Africa and the rich ecumenism which is alive and well in Africa but still needs a robust historical and theological account. The author puts a spotlight on some of the work Christian Councils and the ecumenical movement have done with refugees, decolonization, and challenges the conciliar movement is facing in the post-apartheid era.
