While this book focuses on Syrian refugee children and their integration (or lack thereof) into host societies, there is significant discussion that focuses on the host countries and the narratives that have been constructed regarding refugees, the Syrian war, integration and society. Indeed, how host societies have reacted to the influx (perceived or actual) of Syrian refugees – refugee children, in particular – holds up a mirror to accentuate the values and interests of the host society itself, no matter what the Syrian refugees do or do not do.
