ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book considers experiences and pathways to well-being that reveal unique accounts of the ways in which disciplines across the arts, humanities and design spectra approach the universal goal of supporting and underpinning the achievement of well-being. It focuses on issues and implications of living in urban environments and the direction that urban development is taking, typically allied to ideas of sustainable or liveable cities and growing knowledge of the problems that affect society. The book discusses well-being in the context of the built environment and explores the remit of professions as well as Co-Creation approaches that indicate potential pathways through collaboration and that target different environments. It outlines a diversity of information and presents a sequence of exploration which enables the reader to progress understanding of well-being through the subject matter largely without any specialist knowledge.
