ABSTRACT

T652 is the thermo mechanical treated (TMT) condition used to improve the mechanical properties and microstructure of metals. T652 is obtained by the stepwise procedure of heat treatment, quenching, and aging. Samples of AA2219 are taken for conducting this experiment. AA2219 is the alloying element of Cu with aluminum where AA stands for American associate. After the process is done, these samples are cut according to the American society for testing and materials (ASTM) specimen for the tensile test. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) wire cut is the machine used to cut the tensile and fracture samples. Observations show that the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and fracture toughness increases (under certain heat treatment conditions and total deformation takes place). Microstructures are viewed under the optical microscope after the metallographic procedure is done and also the Vickers micro hardness values are examined.
