ABSTRACT

In this work, the mechanical behavior of Al6061 metal matrix composites has been investigated. Al6061 is used as matrix. Glass particulates are used as reinforcements of 88 μm with weight percentages of 3, 6, 9, and 12 wt.%. The stir casting method was used to produce the composites. The composite was then studied with respect to its microstructure, X-ray diffraction (XRD), microhardness, and tensile strength. The distribution of glass particulates in the matrix alloy was examined using the optical microscope and XRD analysis. Microhardness and tensile strength of composites increase up to 9 wt.% and suddenly decrease up to 12 wt.% because the particles are agglomerated in the composites.
