ABSTRACT

The paper presents an expeditious methodology to assess the accessibility of medical, healthcare and social assistance services. It properly focuses on vulnerable city user like elderly and disabled people. The general aim was to evaluate supply and demand of services in order to improve citizen wellbeing in the municipality of Brescia.

All services were georeferenced and the data sheets were collected in a GIS database. The final database is extremely useful because it could be easily updated and it is also transferable. The main outcome of the analyses were thematic maps: they showed clearly e.g. the absence of services in areas whit high percentage of elderly, the kind of services and their distance from public transportation.

In this way municipal government has a scientific feedback for their policies of services creating, services moving and for identifying priority schedule of services and public open spaces maintenance.
