ABSTRACT

Among non-motorised transport mode, which are often considered as vital elements of sustainable transport systems, the bicycle is substantially faster than walking and is more flexible than public transport. That’s the reason why the number of policy initiatives to promote the creation of bike paths within urban areas has grown considerably over the past two decades, as part of the search for more sustainable transport solutions, as well as for recreational purposes. The paper deals with the efforts put in place to enhance urban quality and lifestyle in Monterusciello, a suburban district of Pozzuoli, a medium-size town near Naples (Italy), highlighting the role of urban projects aimed at increasing cycling mobility.
