ABSTRACT

The paper aims at evaluating whether and how the Smart Mobility concept is contributing to improve the efficiency, the sustainability and the liveability of 11 Italian Metropolitan Cities, through a set of parameters selected from some databases (e.g. ISTAT) and the collection of the major smart initiatives related to the mobility sector. The expected results can be summarized as follows: (i) an analysis of the adoption of the Smart Mobility concept within Italian cities; (ii) an evaluation of the status of Smart Mobility in the Italian cities by the comparison of parameters and initiatives. The paper is divided into four parts: the first provides a review of the scientific literature about the relation between Smart Mobility and sustainable mobility; the second explains the research methods; the third describes the main results of the analysis; finally, the last section provides some causes of reflections about the efforts that the Italian cities need to carry out in order to improve the “smartness” and the sustainability of urban mobility.
