ABSTRACT

This article is an inventory of good manners and what should be done to the future of urban mobility in Brazil. This paper analyzes Brazilian transportation policies and how they affect the population. The objective of this paper is to study the stagnation of urban mobility policies in Brazil, aiming to know the full nature of the process and to identify the causes and roots of this vicious circle. The aim is to identify the major impediments and obstacles to the implementation and maintenance of a consistent and sustainable urban transport plan. Finally, the paper proposes ways to make a short and long term comprehensive and sustainable plan, applied to the conditions and scenario of Brazil, considering all the steps (conceptual, legal, behavioral and physical) needed to its viability. The work also aims to suggest possible strategies, even if gradual, to open paths and create the conditions to overcome these obstacles.
