ABSTRACT

What parallels might exist between the roots of cultural center work and women’s center work? In this chapter, three women of color describe their early careers in women-centered work and their evolution into their current roles at a center for diversity and inclusion at a university without a women’s center. The authors explore the possibilities for women’s centers within new university structures more broadly defined under “equity, diversity, and inclusion”; discuss implications for practitioners; and offer lessons to the profession as a whole in its efforts to attract and retain women of color.
