ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how women’s centers function to resist and dismantle institutionalized sexism and racism, with specific focus given to the challenges of: implementing programming that is inclusive of students of color at a predominantly white institution; encouraging and facilitating open, nonjudgmental dialogue around white privilege and intersectionality; negotiating the tension between white feminists and feminists of color; advising and collaborating with multicultural student organizations; and creating an environment of safety and inclusivity for students of different backgrounds and identities.
