ABSTRACT

Penny Enslin is an analytic philosopher of education and politics. Her research examines a range of contemporary educational problems, especially through the lens of liberal feminism. She has also drawn on other theoretical perspectives, such as Marxism, post-colonialism, African philosophies of education, and cosmopolitanism. As a liberal feminist, much of Enslin’s research examines how different educational theories, policies and practices foster or inhibit autonomy and social justice. An overview of the key tenets of liberal feminism provides a useful framework for understanding the aspects of Enslin’s work that are discussed in the following dialogue. 1
