ABSTRACT

This chapter profiles the MultiLatina, Grupo Familia, located in Medelln, Colombia, and the leadership of its chief executive officer, Andrés Felipe Gómez Salazar (hereafter referred to as Andrés Gómez), in transforming Grupo Familia into a company in which sustainable development is its main strategic driver. Andrés Gómez’s sustainable development leadership is illustrated in three case examples: (1) building inclusive markets by including bottom-of-the-pyramid (BoP) recyclers, (2) respecting BoP consumers and (3) empowering impoverished communities. Grupo Familia and Andrés Gómez provide examples of how triple-bottom-line thinking can be integrated into a company’s enterprise strategy, with significant results. Grupo Familia’s history and its product lines are also discussed.
