ABSTRACT
In this selection Wildaysky addresses the growing importance and increasing exclusivity of the planning profession at the national level. He explores the concepts and motives behind various models of planning and speaks to the constant scrutiny that planners face as a result of the growing dimensions of their responsibilities. Wildaysky then concludes by examining the costs and benefits of formal planning, and the reasoning and purpose that keeps the profession in continuing practice.
