ABSTRACT

The Future Vision Report: Projections, Trends, and Issues Facing Clifton in the 1990s was designed to serve three general purposes. These include: to inform elected and appointed officials of the major projections, trends, and issues facing the city during the 1990s; to provide information to assist them as they make major decisions impacting the city's future; and to serve as a starting point for future strategic planning efforts within Clifton. The chapter highlights the major projections and trends developed as a result of this planning process, the key departmental issues identified by department managers, and the significant citywide issues impacting Clifton in the future. The trends include: employment trends, business trends, housing trends, land use and zoning trends, and population trends. The key departmental issues are administration, assessing, community development, finance, fire, health, legal, police, public works, and recreation. The citywide issues include: municipal revenues, aging population, health services, hazardous wastes, juvenile services, public infrastructure, and parks and playgrounds.
