ABSTRACT
Although the question of this volume is why Thai International Relations (IR) scholars have not had or developed our own theory, we believe that the other question, which urgently needs to be answered, is whether and why IR is such an underdeveloped discipline in Thailand. The answer to both puzzles is not dissimilar. We argue that there is not enough empirical inquiry that is fundamental and foundational to the development of critical theory in Thailand.
