ABSTRACT

In the 1970s, international political economy (IPE) was established as a distinct academic field in an attempt to bridge the gap between political science and economics (Cohen 2008, 17). A decade later, IPE was finally offered as a course at the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University. Not long after, the Department of International Affairs at Thammasat University followed suit. Today, IPE electives are offered in almost every Thai university that teaches International Relations (IR). However, while the teaching of IPE in Thailand has grown, research in IPE has not flourished.
