ABSTRACT

In order to study the sliding mechanism of slide masses under external disturbance, the sliding process is divided into three stages. The first stage refers to the period from start to stable slow sliding; and the second is the non-stable accelerated sliding stage and the third is the deceleration and termination stage. Based on analyzing the failure of the slide mass, The whole landslide process is described by utilizing a dynamic equation. The criteria of the stable state, slow sliding, non-stable acceleration, high-speed sliding and the termination state are established, respectively. Based on the theory of system dynamics, the negative feedback of the slide masses in the first stage is analyzed to reveal the positive damping mechanism. The positive feedback of the slide masses in the second stage is analyzed to uncover the negative damping mechanism. The negative feedback of the slide masses is then analyzed, and the corresponding positive damping mechanism is revealed likewise. The kinetic equation of the whole sliding process is derived, and analytical solutions of the three-stage sliding are presented, respectively. The obtained analytical solutions are used to analyze the whole sliding process.
