ABSTRACT

Apart from passing through mountains, rock tunnel is also applied to metro tunnel or road tunnel in urban area, which generally has a shallow buried depth. To study the seismic performance of a shallow buried rock tunnel, a series of large-scale shaking table tests were carried out. Details of the experimental setup are presented focusing on aspects such as the design of the similitude ratios, model material and sensor array arrangement. Further, the numerical model corresponding shaking table test was also established to further study the seismic performance of tunnel. According to comparisons on acceleration and spectra, test results show a good agreement with the results of numerical simulation. The observations from the research program, including acceleration response, strain, principal stress and dynamic pressure between rock and tunnel structure are summarized and discussed.
