ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies the skills, knowledge and experience practitioner can exploit when applying for a job or postgraduate study. As part of practitioner’s studies practitioner have probably undertaken a SWOT analysis, reviewing their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This can be a powerful tool to help practitioner uncover essential skills and knowledge they can exploit when applying for a job or postgraduate study, and weaknesses which need to be managed. The chapter shows that the personal statement is a crucial part of the application process for a postgraduate teaching qualification and further information. The chapter provides the diverse routes into teaching and how to apply. The range of routes into teaching have exploded in variety over the last few years and practitioner may be a little confused as to which is the best route for them. The chapter discusses internet vacancy websites and additional careers advice and guidance.
