Expanding Chinese influence and China-United States relations

This chapter addresses “rising” China’s efforts to extend its influence overseas and challenge the liberal order by asserting territorial claims in East Asia using its growing military and economic capabilities. The chapter emphasizes China’s more subtle effort to use investment and trade to spread its influence across Eurasia and in less developed regions with its “Belt and Road” plan.
