ABSTRACT
This chapter attempts an experimental foray into the worlds of imaginative pasts and subterranean histories, legends and myths, and historical sensibility and cultural politics that govern the writing of history through the prism of a 16th-century iconoclast and his distinct evocations in historical and literary accounts in 19th-and 20th-century Bengal and Orissa.
