ABSTRACT

SUMMARY: Archaeological investigations on the Intendant’s Palace site in the 1980s determined the site’s physical evolution and the activities pursued there since 1668. In 2006, the City of Québec and Université Laval launched another field study, which uncovered evidence not only of a prehistoric presence, but also previously unknown historic occupation pre-dating Jean Talon’s brewery and possibly associated with a shipyard established by Talon next to the Saint-Charles River around 1666.
