ABSTRACT

Zizi Raymond re-entry into her art after brain surgery came when, through one of her cancer support groups, she learned of the art therapy classes facilitated by Esther. Esther’s knowledge and appreciation of art was stimulating to Zizi, and her plans to curate shows for the participants was an opportunity for Zizi to return to a sense of normalcy by preparing her art for public viewing. Throughout her participation in art therapy, she continued to receive treatment for her spreading cancer, including harsh chemotherapies, three more surgeries and various forms of brain radiation. When Esther was planning another show for the art therapy participants in 2013, she suggested that Zizi work with her food photographs to create an installation. The work is made up of the photographs in small scale, inserted into jars that signify each month that Zizi accounted for her eating.
