ABSTRACT

China has been experiencing rapid urbanization for recent decades, which brought severe environmental problems. Under the guidelines of sustainable development, Eco-city gradually became a mainstream practice in China. Since 2009, the Chinese central government has used various methods, including policy and financial support, to stimulate Eco-city development nationwide. To date, the number of major Eco-city projects like Tianjin Eco-city and Tangshan Bay Eco-city has increased to over 200, and China is becoming the most active county in Eco-city development in terms of quantity and scale. This research examines China’s Eco-city development from 2009 to 2015 and focuses on policy evolution and case progress.
