ABSTRACT
Hong Kong can be considered the world’s laboratory of Vertical Urbanism. High population density is often associated with crowding, congestion and environmental problems. In contrast, Hong Kong’s podium-tower developments are examples of how density can be livable, thanks to their unique integration of mass transit, the creation of new forms of open space and vertical circulation methods, as well as highly efficient designs of towers that maximize the window surface within a plot.
