ABSTRACT

This study explored the types of language functions intermediate learners of Chinese perform when conducting social communication in Chinese on Facebook. A qualitative approach was adopted to analyze the discourse functions utilized by the students. The samples of the participants’ discourses consisted mainly of their Facebook posts, which were collected over the course of one semester. A computer-mediated discourse analysis method was employed to analyze those posts. Findings revealed that 22 types of discourse functions were used, the most frequently employed of which was asking questions. The use of this function as well as 21 others emerged as a result of real-life situations and was for communicative purposes, which demonstrated Facebook offered students an optional platform to practice situational use of the target language.

本研究通过质性研究的方法调查了中级汉语学习者在脸书(Facebook)上用汉语进行社交时使用的语言功能的种类。被试的语篇样本主要包括他们一个学期在脸书上发的帖子。作者采用以计算机为媒介的语篇分析法对这些帖子进行分析。研究结果显示,学生使用了22种语篇功能,其中最常用的功能是提问。提问和其他21种语言功能的使用是学习者基于实际生活情形而展开的交际,这一点表明脸书为学习者提供了一个使用目的语进行情景交际练习的可选平台。
