Couple Counseling in Turkey

Considering Relationship Beliefs and Gender Roles
WithBerke Kirikkanat

This chapter addresses romantic relationships in Turkey and how such relationships serve to shape the psychological well-being of individuals, couples, and families. The collectivistic nature of Turkish culture in its family patterns and the increase in the rates of divorce and relationship break-ups is examined. Within this chapter, a couple counselor will provide a perspective for addressing the needs of Turkish couples who are experiencing communication and relational problems stemming from personal thoughts nourished by traditional gender roles.
