ABSTRACT

Marketing and managing events, acquiring sponsorships, selling advertisements, financing, and budgeting—all of these require the essential skill sets sport managers need to possess. Sport management faculty must help students understand sport beyond its economic incentives. Sport and human rights takes two forms: sport as a human right, and using sport to promote human rights. The term human rights can be daunting for a sport manager. Globalization has received significant attention from academics, policy makers, and practitioners in sport. According to Wong and Trumper, "globalization fundamentally transforms the relationship between 'place' of habitation and cultural practices, experiences, and identities". Sport and the environment have two facets: the impact of the environment on sport and the impact of sport on the environment. Sport incorporates technology in many ways. New training techniques push athletes past limits never thought attainable. High-tech materials are incorporated into equipment.
