ABSTRACT

'Eclipse' is performed by a grand collection of the various musicians who perform the other cuts, encapsulating both the strengths and weaknesses of The Moon Revisited in general. Nevertheless, as 'Eclipse' fades out to the sounds of a carnival calliope and hiccups, the only sure thing is that 'a splendid time was not had by all'. Torn between parody and musical ambitions, the Squirrels plod their way through The Dark Side of the Moon with cartoon sound effects and sophomoric attempts at humor. The mishmash of lovingly re-created and occasionally clever interpretations dragged down by the stone of the Squirrels' uninspired vocals and failed attempts at novel sound effects results in a mere hodgepodge of aggravating antics. The Section's Dark Side of the Moon, like the Easy All-Stars' Dub Side of the Moon, embodies the essences of both 'cover' and tribute, revealing previously unexplored depths and recasting even our favorite passages into new musical vocabularies.
