ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Ovarian stimulation for assisted reproduction technology (ART) cycles aims to provide multiple pre-ovulatory follicles for oocyte collection. ere are three main components of a conventional ART stimulation cycle: (i) induction of multi-follicular growth with exogenous gonadotropins; (ii) prevention of endogenous luteinizing hormone (LH) surge by using gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogs; and (iii) inducing an endogenous LH surge or mimicking it with exogenous human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for oocyte maturation. In this chapter, we will briey review endocrinologic aspects of each of these components.
