ABSTRACT

Little Inventors presents a case study of how artist, designer and inventor Dominic Wilcox, successfully turned an artistic method seeded and developed within his creative (art and design) practice, into a born global, creative ‘brand.’ The project illustrates how artistic practice can operate within spaces that foreground a commercial, educational and innovation focus rather than cultural concerns, yet retain the core values and working methods of art and design practice. This chapter tracks the genesis and trajectory of Little Inventors from a local cultural engagement project to a global creative brand, through the lens of maker practice.
