ABSTRACT

WIKITOPIA is a media arts and culture festival in Hong Kong that celebrates creative interventions mediated with digital technologies as collaborative contributions to the future of society. This chapter examines the three iterations of WIKITOPIA produced to date (2010, 2012–2013 and 2016) to investigate how the open wiki platform was translated offline as a kind of hacking of curatorial practice. Throughout, Tsao reflects upon the origin and execution of the event within the particular social, cultural, political and economic context of Hong Kong City.
