ABSTRACT

Here, we review the nuts and bolts of FBT supervision, focusing on how to establish a strong supervisory framework and relationship from the very beginning. This chapter consolidates the wisdom garnered through years of collective experience of expert FBT clinicians and supervisors. Information obtained through an interview process is amalgamated in a set of guidelines supervisors can turn to as they establish a supervisory relationship. The chapter covers the assessment phase of supervision, whereby we provide recommendations for training, and an orientation to the structure and process of supervision more broadly, as it applies to FBT. Further, we highlight the importance of developmental considerations that guide the process of supervision, discuss a process for supervisor self-assessment, provide a case presentation guideline and review modes of teaching that can facilitate a rich learning environment.
