ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurship and innovation in higher education are no longer only associated with business start-ups and technology transfer but are increasingly understood as core elements of a procedural framework for how organisations and individuals behave. The growing expectation from policy makers and society on Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to respond to the employment and employability needs of youth has for some time been driving efforts to take education activities that stimulate the entrepreneurial mindset across different disciplines. This chapter focuses on start-up support in HEIs and presents findings from Ireland and Hungary, two countries that participated in HEInnovate country reviews in 2015–2016. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the European Commission support HEIs and governments with HEInnovate, a guiding framework for entrepreneurial and innovative higher education institutions. The HEI leader survey is a standard questionnaire that was developed from the HEInnovate good practice statements and is used to complement the information obtained from background reports and study visits.
