ABSTRACT
Natural mineral licks are mineral outcrops in the soil which are visited by herbivores for soil eating (biting and chewing) or licking (with the tongue). Ayeni (1971) reviewed some literature on licks from North America and noted that the early authors had emphasized the mineralogical content of licks rather than the frequency and behaviour of animals at the licks.
