294‘The Nun, or The Perjured Beauty’ was first published in the 1698 edition of The Histories and Novels printed by Samuel Briscoe. The ‘Advertisement to the Reader’ probably by Charles Gildon, after discussing the origin in a wager of The Court of the King of Bantam’, claimed of The Nun’ and The Adventures of the Black Lady’: T need not say any thing of the other Two, they evidently confessing their admirable Author.’
