ABSTRACT
In the early stages, it is all too easy to lose sight of the fact that the purpose of the attainment of BS 5750, Investors in People, Total Quality Management, Total Quality Environment, ISO 9000 is to improve, measurably, the operation of the enterprise. BS 5750 seemed to provide an ideal framework and discipline upon which to construct other improvements to management. Any initial attempt to comprehend the inscrutable texts that accompany the official BS 5750 standard documentation is daunting enough. At Kent Training Centres (KTC) in Dover, we made a decision that we would go for BS 5750. The briefest of descriptions of what Kent Training Centres do: we were set up in 1988 to provide training for the construction industry. Kent Training Centre's existence has coincided with a heady peak of construction activity followed by a very deep trough. The experience has demonstrated that flexibility is amongst the greatest of virtues.
