ABSTRACT

This chapter is a conversation between theatre scholar Azadeh Sharifi and dramaturg Laura Paetau on multilinguality and decolonisation in Germany’s postmigrant theatre based on the performance Frutas Afrodisiíacas by the queer performance group Frutas. Frutas Afrodisiíacas was staged by Frutas in collaboration with Ballhaus Naunynstrasse Berlin as well as Maxim Gorki Theatre in 2016. It gained wide recognition through its unique theatrical style and its radical approach to a decolonial aesthetic. The dialogue focuses on theatrical strategies of resistance and empowerment, the deconstruction of stereotypes on the Latinx body and performative decolonisation through bodies, language, and aesthetics.
