ABSTRACT

There continues to be a dearth of sexuality learning or training opportunities in the vast majority of medical schools, so most interested clinicians are forced to find such training on their own. The American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), as mentioned throughout this volume as the oldest and largest sexological organization and certification body, has not only been attracting increasing numbers of medical professionals but has also formalized its Certified Sexuality Counselor (CSC) criteria, thereby creating standards of competence for healthcare practitioners that had not existed before. These changes present significant opportunities for sex therapy supervisors to supervise a variety of medical clinicians toward becoming CSCs. Sex therapy supervisors who have had the opportunity to supervise medical professionals toward certification will undoubtedly attest to how mutually satisfying and enriching this type of supervision can be.
