ABSTRACT

Slow fashion values should be co-created from within the movement to provide inspiration and guidance for designers and others working in the movement. This chapter discusses the thesis 'Slow Fashion: Tailoring a Strategic Approach towards Sustainability' written collaboratively by Carlotta Cataldi, Maureen Dickson and Crystal Grover in 2010 during Master's studies in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability at the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden. To create the systematic change needed to move towards sustainability in the fashion industry, slow fashion presents an alternative paradigm to the current fast fashion model. The mainstream fashion industry is contributing to today's sustainability challenge in a number of ways. The chapter outlines the strategic planning methods used in the research and proposes a set of recommendations that can serve as guidelines for established or emerging fashion professionals that are embarking on a sustainable business journey.
