ABSTRACT
Oikos is the International Student Organization for Sustainable Economics and Management, a leading reference point for the promotion of sustainability change agents. This chapter aims to empower action competence for sustainable development among tomorrow's decision-makers. Oikos was founded as a local student group at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 1987. Ever since, oikos St. Gallen has organized workshops, conferences, simulation games, and educational events to integrate sustainability issues into teaching and research of economics and management. Oikos is a global network of local chapters all working towards the same mission. With 35 chapters in 15 countries, the oikos network has the potential to reach 50,000 students worldwide. The international oikos activities are funded by a circle of donors. Members of our circle of donors are actively engaged in the sustainable development dialogue.
