ABSTRACT

The Human Resources (HR) function is the key partner in embedding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability initiatives in any organisation, as this can be achieved only when a company educates, engages and empowers its entire workforce. This chapter proposes that the HR function has a responsibility to be proactive in leading the way in establishing a company-wide CSR-enabled culture. It provides the case study about the bussiness of a woman named as Sharon Black. She had instituted a training effectiveness system that tracked the way training was changing employee and management behaviour through time. She took a quick look at Cisco website and noticed that this was Cisco's largest corporate social responsibility programme supporting the development of an educated information and communication technology (ICT) workforce, and promoting the growth of the ICT industry. Sharon continued her Internet search and came across a small paragraph in the Corporate Responsibility Report for 2008 of Danske Bank.
