ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents a scheme for linking the key concepts of adaptation, vulnerability and mitigation, highlighting a number of key developments in climate change research, and identifying the key challenges for integrating the various domains involved in climate change research. It presents a 'bottom-up' framework for vulnerability assessment for tourist destinations. The book suggests that climate change is only one of the developments that people in Mozambique have to adapt to, as 'climate change becomes incorporated in the continuity of everyday practice'. It argues that the risks of climate change for inland navigation are greater for transport from the Netherlands to Germany than for transport in the opposite direction. The book suggests that the destinations for which losses are projected might push strongly for stringent mitigation policies.
