ABSTRACT

This chapter provides Denmark profiles, including key information about the relevant corporate sustainability and responsibility (CSR) history, country-specific issues, trends, research, education and leading organizations. The Danish tradition for social responsibility, along with its welfare concepts, has contributed to Denmark taking the 6th place in world competitiveness, a global leadership position within responsible competitiveness. The Danish government has also developed a strategy for Denmark in the global economy, intended, among other things, to help Danish companies incorporate social, ethical and environmental aspects into their business operations, so they can gain competitive advantages in the global market. Implicit CSR has been predominant in Denmark for years CSR issues have been addressed by mechanisms implicit in the institutional framework for business and are thus state-defined. In Denmark, CSR practices have been promoted and developed with the use of a combination of laws, regulations, collective agreements, mandatory requirements and voluntary practices.
